The annual Tai Tapu Spelling Bee is taking place again this term and all students from Tai Tapu School will be taking part in this event. Room One, it is your responsiblity to practice, practice practice! Make it your aim to test yourselves at home regularly so that come the night of the Spellathon, you can hold your head up high knowing you have done the best possible job of spelling each and every word given to you, accurately.
Remember the spelling strategies you have been taught
Breaking words into smaller sized chunks (remember that smaller words which you know how to spell can often be found in the word you are trying to spell)
Visualising the word and seeing if the letters you envision to be in the word look "right"
Listen for the beginning and ending sounds (and don't forget your silent letters such as "b" in the word "debt")
Remember the rule: "i before e except after c" which works in most cases! (example: believe, grieve, receieve).
Think about the spelling patterns in words (ie: long vowel sounds).
